Matt Van Lanen, Class of 2001

Matt Van Lanen, Bay Port 2001, knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in architecture. What he couldn’t have known then, was that he would grow up to be a Senior Project Manager for EUA, improving the educational experience for students in the same district he once attended. Thanks to community support and the passage of the April 2026 referendum, Matt and his team at EUA are playing an integral role in the exciting facilities improvements planned at many HSSD schools.

“Just as Bay Port evolved during my time there and provided new opportunities that enhanced my educational experience, it is exciting to know that today’s students will benefit from continued investments and improvements across the district,” said Matt. “Students in the elementary, intermediate, and middle schools will all benefit from these improvement projects that support their growth and success from an early age.”

After graduating from Bay Port, Matt attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee to study architecture and art history. “Bay Port played an important role in helping me achieve my professional goals,” said Matt. “It provided a strong learning environment that encouraged both academic growth and collaboration with peers. The combination of specialized electives and rigorous coursework gave me valuable preparation for college and ultimately helped set the stage for my professional success.”

Matt met his wife Kari at Bay Port, and considers HSSD to be a significant part of their life. “When it came time to settle down and raise a family, we chose to move back to the area because of the quality of the school system and the positive experiences we had as students,” said Matt. “Now, our own children have the opportunity to attend HSSD and are now Bay Port Pirates themselves.”

In January, Matt will take on a new leadership role as the Operational Leader of EUA’s Green Bay office. He is excited for this new chapter in his career, and is looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that come with helping lead the future of the Green Bay office.
